About the photo

Gloria is a European herring gull (Larus argentatus) who lives on the neighbor's chimney and during breeding season visits our balcony every night for a quick nap after a long day of taking care of her very demanding young. 

She's a fierce and protective mom who doesn't shy away from a fight for food, so she occasionally pops up with (luckily, very minor and superficial) injuries. This day she had blood on her eye. It came from a small scratch and she healed well from it 💙

About the paper
