Bridled Common Murre | White glossy mug

Portrait of a bridled common murre (Uria aalge) at Hornøya in Norway. Some common murres have a white ring around the eyes, resembling glasses. These are called bridled common murres, and are the same species as regular common murres, but become more common in the north.

Common murre colonies in southern places, like by Portugal, have no (or almost no) bridled variations, in Northern populations such as at Bjørnøya closer to Svalbard, around half of the murre population has the glasses.
